Frances and Sarah from Creative Options have brought World Suicide Prevention Day to Southampton three years in a row, and each year it gets better. This year there was a new feature “Searching the Source” using rivers as an analogy for one’s emotions and like a river, which is affected by weather our emotions are affected by things that happen in everyday life, when we are feeling down and isolated despair can easily creep in and at these times a friendly voice of kind words of encouragement can go a long way and give hope to those who are in a dark place.
With over 6000 deaths from suicide a year in the UK which is more deaths than on the road. This is a very important Day!
There was interactive theatre with scenarios, what not do to when someone is distressed, poetry, art and music. The event was supported by Alan Whitehead, Labour MP for Southampton Test, Councillor Paul Lewzey, Staff from Southern Health, Southampton University, MIND, The good Mental Health Cooperative, Red Cross, Integrated Domestic Abuse Services and the Recovery College
